9/11 Year Six: A Plan of Action
Last year I posted 9/11 Reflections and Rage and here it is a year later and ya know hat? I’m still pissed for roughly the same reasons. However I know that not much is going to change until we have a new POTUS. Its sucks, but that’s what its going to take. However, the Senate and the Congress have changed hands and one thing I mentioned last year hasn’t changed. The 9/11 memorial at the WTC site still hasn’t been built.
So this year rather than go on a great big rant and/or analysis on the failings of various elected representatives I propose this; We, meaning you and I and few of your friends and some of their friends etc etc etc, light a fire under the asses of our elected representatives to get it built. All we have to do is is pester our political “leaders” endlessly by sending them a short simple message endlessly.
You can find their email addresses here.
Example:
Dear Congresscritter (fill in name),
It’s been six years since 9/11 and we still haven’t managed to build a monument to those whose lives were taken on that day. I respectfully request that you do whatever you can to expedite the building of the World Trade Center Memorial. Thank you for your time and attention.
Sincerely,
Your name
Your address
Then drop a line to a few of your friends encouraging them to do the same and email a few of their friends.
If we as a country can’t gather the collective will to permanently honor those that died six years ago today then this country is truly in sorry shape. Maybe it’s just the optimist in me but somehow I am certain that we have what it takes to at least come together and get this much done.

Without denying the significance of Dyre's petition, Mark Steyn rightly says that "those 9/11 families should know that, if you want your child's death that morning to have meaning, what matters is not whether you hound Boeing into admitting liability but whether you insist that the movement that murdered your daughter is hunted down and the sustaining ideological virus that led thousands of others to dance up and down in the streets cheering her death is expunged from the earth."
My question is where is the outcry for the War of 1812 memorial? Nothing has been done about this for almost 200 years. No Mas II was truly the grudge match for Britain and the US but alas there would be no revenge this time. But the sun never sets on the British empire because God doesn't trust the British in the dark *cue the laugh track*
"the sun never sets on the British empire because God doesn't trust the British in the dark," wrote chris. Chris, did you hear that aphorism in the George Galloway's and Christopher Hitchens's debate in Amy Goodman program?
"is expunged from the earth." how can you saddle them with such a task? you cannot eradicate ideas. i thought this sort of thing went out of vogue with the witch trials, but it appears we must beat it to death again. you realize there are still nazis and commies, right? however do you sleep in such dangerous times? isms abound!
rightly so! we are also way behind on our plague memorial. something like a third of the world's population died, and here we are, not remembering them anywhere! we suck.
I think perhaps it is the optimist in you that allows you to hope for simplicity in something that should be unquestionably simple. You lose me at the mentioning of the present POTUS, but ultimately that doesn't matter to the question at hand. We have to have more "few friends" than those that want to make the memorial a "lesson" in the error of the ways of the West and others that have commited crimes against humanity; multi-cultural, politically correct dogma do not allow for a simple memorial to the souls lost that day. I guess it would be an arrow in the quiver of those that support wiping the grunge off the face of the earth; so it is necessary to educate to the masses the ignorance of this mindset. We brought this on ourselves and those that feel so vehemently about that will not just allow a commeration of the mothers, fathers, friends, children, lovers, working stiffs…what have you that went to work one day and didn't return. Beyond my blather, I sense a hint or wafting of that which I recall driving through the farmland of VT years ago; in fact, it's so strong, I can envision it still in full steam. I agree with X to a point; the point being it is the family's choice regarding what this all means and what to support, as it is everyones. Beyond that though, it does require its being expunged from the face of this earth. Pardon me if I have misunderstood, but we war mongering riff raff tend to be slow on the uptake I guess. Bright? Do you realize you are speaking in an "ism" as well? Nazis, commies and all the rest in what appears to be an attempt at belittling that which we are faced with. Hey, this isn't WWII or the Cold War, what does all that have to do with today (sarcasm)? I've got no problem with "ism"s or "asm"s. Personally I sleep very well and I would imagine that X does as well, however, it is not us making the decisions that so many decry and ultimately put people in deaths crosshairs. You may not want to believe it, but we are facing something despicable out there and it isn't our country. A memorial is still deserved though without all the BS that has gone on with the one in Manhattan; perceived "ism"s are that which makes certain sectors so hard for making sure lessons are included in the memorial, rahter than just a rest in peace, we miss you, we shouldn't forget you headstone. CC? War of 1812? When you get your head out I'll offer a few suggestions on conditioners to try. Here we are just six years from the horrific day and the NYTimes questions whether we should even commemorate the day as we have for the past years (because professionals think we may need to let it go). I'm not too overly concerned about 1812 because I hadn't been hatched yet. This was in our lifetimes and if many prefer to look outward for an enemy so be it (I'm one), but too much time has been spent looking inside the borders for the bad guy(s) and this reeks of an unspoken fear; a fear borne of upsetting the status quo or stability in an effort to avoid making things worse. We've got what we've got in part due to this and it has been allowed to fester and gather motivation by our turning a blind eye to attacks on our nation over the past 30 years. It's time to set that crap aside…it doesn't work too well; these *ucks wanted a fight they thought we would turn away from and many here further that confidence…it hasn't been quite what they expected regardless of our missteps, even our missteps hurt them. Arizona has a meeting set for 9/28 to discuss possible fixes to the pathetic nature of its memorial to that day…it was erected by a committee with no oversight…it was opened last year on 9/11…it's a piece of crap that even refers to the Maine…and all sorts of other garbage that in reality disrespects the lives of those lost on that day. Dyre, when you think about it, it's not such a bad thing the memorial has not been completed yet; we could end up with the farce they have in AZ, an unmemorial. Crapola to that sisters!!!! apologies if I went off anywhere or lost some; I faced many interruptions to my train of thought. If something doesn't make sense; it doesn't make sense.
"how can you saddle them with such a task? you cannot eradicate ideas," wrote Bright. All ideas which are central to a person's self-image are so because their presence or absence serves as a criterion for dividing good people from bad people. So if we want to be good guys, we must take our kicks out of fighting for good ideas unflinchingly against bad ideas such as fascism and islamofascism. When I say we should do this or that or that we cannot do that, I am not, of course, speaking from a neutral stand point. No one can no more be neutral on political matters of this magnitude.
We don't need to build a memorial - we need to build another twin towers right on the same spot - and if Americans still want something there to remind the world of 9/11 - put a couple of anti - aircraft guns on top of that building and dedicate them to the victims of 9/11! My reticence about building memorials is that often the dignity we intend for the victims gets diluted by liberal platitudes carved into it or the whole site is shaped into a crescent or something like that - in our country today being proud of America is frowned upon, patriotism has been become synonymous with jingoism - and that imposed guilt complex robs us of the collective outrage we ought to have when Islamo-fascists killing our own and beheading anyone else who defies them. The only way I'll support a memorial is if the military builds it - they are the ones fighting the war we're in, and they seem to be the only ones making the sacrifices! They know what we're fighting! Rebuild the twin towers! That's the best way to show America and the world that we're stronger than any black hearted movement of jihadis!
Painfully good point
