Big news, John Warner has "defected" from the Bush Camp on Iraq policy…this is new? Or is it just new because he has said it again? The media has and is portraying this as a big slap to the Admin as though Warner is the only big gun. In other "news" Wake up America had a post up late yesterday regarding a Newsweek piece by Michael Hirsh about the presidents recent "mangling" of Cold War history with his recent remarks on the U.S. pull-out from Vietnam; according to Hirsh our pulling out was right. "Why America's Pullout from Vietnam Worked; the truth behind Bush's mangling of Cold War History" http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20411171/site/newswee...

And Gen. Pace reportedly will advocate a pullout beginning next year. I like that idea. Anyone else have any thoughts about that?

What does it all entail, do you know? Does it begin 12/31 next year? What kind of schedule and numbers? Be interesting to here some details on it and the context. Is it more wishful or an "as things are going now" type of dealio?

Great timing on the article. I especially like the search result that ends up at L.A. times Scoop; no one, as in the original article is quoted beyond "officials" but what's great about Scoop is that it's all in quotations because it's quoting from the article; makes it seem more legit than it is. One thing I don't care for about this type of thing (as with most reporting), is that I get to the point where I don't believe anything the media says. Many don't trust the government/administration and the msm cannot be either…not very cool

"Today's Army is out of balance," Casey said last week in a speech at the National Press Club. "We're consumed with meeting the current demands, and we're unable to provide ready forces as rapidly as we would like for other contingencies."

I don't think he's proposing an actual plan with details. He's just saying that if we kept the surge going the army is going to break. He's being replaced as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, right?

Yes, yes, the army/military is breaking. Then we had better do something to avoid that and that shouldn't mean disengaging from situations that warrant it. Concerned about Iran? Dropping out of Iraq isn't the answer. We need to be able to cover these types of things. Replaced come September, yep.

I am sure the USA may remove troops, but we will always have bases in Iraq and the rest of the Middle East.

Agreed and that has to happen at some point, but the impression given by the articles is that it is a major draw down and nothing is in stone. We're heading in the direction to bring some troops home, but not tomorrow or the next day…it's nothing new with the exception being Pace as the "source," of the strategy.

From my comment below: "One thing I don't care for about this type of thing (as with most reporting), is that I get to the point where I don't believe anything the media says. Many don't trust the government/administration and the msm cannot be either…not very cool" This type of update is why the media can really bug me.
