Jeri Kehn Thompson: Igniting Ire and Fire

UPDATE: Fred Thompson Responds to Critics

In case you have been visiting the Mars Rover, it is August 2007.  A full year before the Democrat & Republican National Conventions are set to officially nominate their candidate for the office of the presidency.

The presidential campaign has focused on few - if any - issues. John Edwards is not as cool as his wife.   Hillary Clinton is never going to be as charming as her husband.  Joe Biden may never have a break out moment, even though he is the most sane democrat, and the best they have to offer if you look at pure qualifications.

All the bumper stickers from ”End This Illegal War in Iraq”  and”Global War on Terror” to “Trophy Wife” and “Stepford Wife” are a part of a political mushroom crowd.  The Democrats, in their desperate attempt to appear tough are embracing war talk and war action.  Republicans are desperate to appear more human, and putting their wives and families on display.  The political isolation from everyday America is palpable.

Political correctness has been disregarded and both parties are guilty.  Especially when it comes to Jeri Kehn Thompson, wife of not-yet-a-candidate Fred Thompson.   Mrs. Thompson, 40, has been called a Trophy Wife.  A label that implies she has no intellectual gravitas, big breasts, and a hankering for the cash of a Sugar Daddy.  She has also been accused of masterminding her husband’s campaign and controlling the staff.

For months, there was speculation she was an attorney.  In the last few days, spokeswoman Linda Rozett confirmed to The Washington Post that Mrs. Thompson was not an attorney.  A previous article indicated Mrs. Thompson had a long term relationship but was not married.  She has a couple of judgements that may or may not be satisfied, no one knows for sure, since record keeping is an imperfect science.

What fascinates me about the Jeri Kehn Thompson should-not-be-a-controversy is how a beautiful, successful woman is attacked.  Some envy her beauty - and call her a Trophy.  Some envy her smarts, savvy and success and call her controlling.

Unfortunately, politicos seem incapable of believing Jeri Kehn Thompson is beautiful AND smart.  Media cynicism paints Fred Thompson as the in-love older man being driven to the brink of the presidency by a controlling wife.

Jeri Kehn Thompson breaks the mold.  She is emblematic of the Generation X woman.  College educated, steady career, then she married, then had her family.  All according to Ronald Reagan’s plan.  Because she achieved her goals and retained her feminine mystique, the attacks are voracious.

For my money, the idea of a Generation X First Lady is appealing. Baby Boomers had their time in the sun and they failed.

Beauty, curves, brains, professional success, motherhood and real love inspire jealousy among those who allow their dreams to die.   Critics of Mrs. Thompson say more about themselves than they do Jeri.  What do I mean?  They would rather attack a smart, beautiful woman to deflect attention from their lack of real ideas, real solutions, real qualifications, and real fear that when Fred Thompson enters the race officially - they will become irrelevant.

Good for Thompson for having a trophy wife, but lets focus on Thompson; not his wife… she isn't running for first lady, he is running for president.

Very interesting article. Yes, beautiful and successful women are easy to attack. It's still early and let's keep our eyes on Thompson.

I grew up with the now Mrs. Thompson–I can tell you she is smart and beautiful, however entirely self involved. I would fear this duo, as she was heard in her hometown saying "we LOVE Don Rumsfeld" for me that says enough. The sugar daddy thing is definite.

"Baby Boomers had their time in the sun and they failed." Had their time in the sun and absolutely refuse to give it up. I didn't realize she was only 40, wow; pretty lame of her to do the college, career, family route. We're supposed to follow only one route and stick to it in exemplary partisan fashion. She strikes me as the type of woman the Left would raise on a pedestal (less the family part, but hey, even "Hillary" is a Mom….). Ultimately she is the wife of a Conservative and the Leftists are only interested in the inclusion of anyone else…even if she had had an abortion that probably wouldn't be good enough; it would just be one more slam used against Thompson. I suppose though it is only fair that they pick on her, considering her likely strengths as Mr. Thompson hasn't officially entered the race and we all know how the process begins with beating up on spouses before a person announces candidacy…oh, wait, no…that…I guess I'm confused…this must be a new thing to go with YouTube debates and the acceptability of allowing one of the parties to refuse debates with moderators that are not partisan…oh, wait, no…that…I guess I'm confused…well it makes sense I guess…that they'd pick on her….I mean, well, er, um it's the substance thing right?…oh, wait, no…that…I guess I'm confused….hmmmm….maybe I'll just vote for "Hillary" it's better than getting picked on and she voted for and supported the Iraq "invasion" and now doesn't so she's covered both bases…very well rounded I'm still confused, but I'm thinking I know now why they're picking on Mrs. Thompson considering her cleavage is nicer the "Hillary's"…well maybe not to the Left…I give up…here's to Bill Clinton as the "first Laddy!" Great post Miss Lizzy!
